PDX-FG Protection Phase:
Protection Dog Xtreme – Family Guardian (PDX-FG) Protection will consist of demonstrating the exercises listed below:
- “Visual and Vocal Deterrent” - A decoy (“civil” = without equipment) steps out of hiding with a weapon and threatens handler who demonstrates the “alert on command” with his dog on leash. (“civil” - no bite)
- “Friend or Foe?” - Friendly stranger (decoy) approaches handler with dog under control on leash at sit. Decoy passes by several times, sometimes shaking hands, and sometimes talking in a friendly manor. The dog must remain under control at a “sit” without biting. Sometime during the meeting a surprise attack is made on the handler. The decoy hits the handler and the dog must instantly engage the decoy without command and withstand some pressure and a hit from the decoy. When the dog has the attacker under control, the handler commands the dog to release. The exercise ends with the handler heeling his dog away. (on leash bite on a suit with an “out”)
- “Protection of Family Member” - Demonstrate the “Protection of a Family Member” by placing the dog on down stay with family member about 30 paces away. The decoy acts friendly as he walks up to and around the family member several times. Suddenly the decoy produces a weapon and hits family member. The dog instantly defends the family member without a command by stopping decoy and release on command. (bite on suit with an “out”)
- “Carjacking” - Decoy (with hidden sleeve) attempts carjacking. Initially acting friendly and engaging the driver in conversation, the decoy suddenly attempts to grab something out of the vehicle. The dog must stop the decoy and release on command. (bite on hidden sleeve with an “out”)
